Change of Ownership

Change of Ownership refers to the transfer of all the rights and duties of the nominated domain name to another designated person/company. To protect your properties MD Web Hosting will not accept any applications for a change of ownership online, by telephone, or email. If you are unsure about our change of ownership process, please do not hesitate to contact our support team.

.com / .net / .org /.info / .biz DOMAINS

To change the registrant of your .com / .net / .org /.info / .biz name, MD Web Hosting requires documentation from both parties. A request by telephone or email is not acceptable. An administration fee of AUD $49.90 will apply.

To transfer ownership we require:

  1. a written request for the change of ownership on a company letterhead and ACN/ABN numbers (where applicable) signed by the current registrant, or an authorised representative of the current registrant. Please include relevant photo ID as required (drivers licence or passport).
  2. receive a written acceptance for the Change of Ownership of the domain on a company letterhead and ACN/ABN numbers (where applicable) signed by the proposed new registrant, or an authorised representative of the proposed new registrant. Please include relevant photo ID as required (drivers licence or passport).

Our domain transfers follow the procedures outlined in the auDA Transfer policy.

Current auDA policy restricts the transfer of .au domain names to certain limited situations. Registrant changes may be required for various reasons, such as changes of company structure, sale of a businesses, and legal disputes. Please be advised that auDA policy also prohibts the sale of .au domains. MD Web Hosting strongly advises you not to attempt to buy or sell a .au domain that is already registered to a third party.

.au Domain transfer will be allowed if:

  1. the current registrant has sold their business operations or assets to proposed new registrant and the deed of sale includes the transfer of the domain name licence.
  2. the current registrant has assigned their intellectual property rights to proposed new registrant and the deed of assignment includes the transfer of the domain name licence.
  3. the current registrant has been liquidated or is under administration and the liquidator or administrator has authorised the transfer of the domain name licence to proposed new registrant.
  4. the current registrant and proposed new registrant are legal entities belonging to the same group of related entities.
  5. the current registrant is holding the domain name licence in their capacity as an agent of proposed new registrant, and at the time of registration the registrant had entered into an agreement to transfer the domain name licence to proposed new registrant at a future date.
  6. the current registrant is deceased or due to medical issues an authorised executor or power of attorney has authorised the transfer of the domain name licence to proposed new registrant.
  7. a competent arbitrator, tribunal, court or legislative body has ordered current registrant to transfer their domain name licence to proposed new registrant.
  8. the current registrant has entered into an agreement to transfer their domain name licence to proposed new registrant in settlement of a dispute between the parties, and the Deed of Settlement includes the transfer of the domain name licence.

An administration fee of AUD$99 will apply as well as the 2 year domain registration fee of AUD$39.95. The 2 year .au registration period will commence from the day the change of ownership is completed. Any previous registration period will be void.

  3. receive a completed Statutory Declaration in the standard format provided at Schedule A. You may download the form Statutory Declaration.
