Domain Names:ID Protect
From MDSupportWiki
Whenever domains are registered, ICANN requires that the registrant's (the person registering the domain) contact details are made public in the Whois database. This is all well and good for large mega-corporations - unfortunately, spammers trawl thru the Whois database, collecting phone numbers, addresses and email accounts, which they then spam mercilessly!
Enter ID Protect
Our ID Protect service was designed to stop this abuse of the Whois database. Instead of putting in your own private contact details into the Whois system, we put in our own! We act as a sort of proxy between you and the spammers/marketers. Any paper mail a spammer attempts to send will be deposited into our PO box and shredded promptly :) If someone sends you an email, we will forward it on to you without revealing your identity to the sender. Finally, if someone tried to call you, they would get a message asking that they send you an email!
So, if you feel uncomfortable putting your private information onto a search service accessible by anyone, you should consider ID Protect.
Availability
Available for .com, .net., .info, .biz and .org domains. Unfortunately, we cannot offer this service for .au or uk based domain names.
