Making your domain name work with your hosting

Your domain name needs to point to our servers for your web site and email to function. If your domain name does not point to our servers, your hosting will not work using your domain name.

Please change your domain name DNS settings at your current registrar, so that your domain name points to our servers. Our DNS settings are listed below. This change to be performed at your current domain registrar using their systems (where you purchased the domain). Please contact them directly if you are unable to make the changes yourself or require assistance.

If you purchased your domain name directly from MD Web Hosting, and your web site does not load when accessing by your domain name after 36 hours, your domain name DNS settings may be incorrect. To check your domain name DNS settings, please perform a WHOIS search here:

The DNS (name server) settings shown in the above WHOIS search need to match the settings shown in your welcome email and/or below.

Remember: After updating your domain's name server settings, it can take 1 - 24 hours for this information to propagate across the internet. Your domain name may not work correctly during this period. This is normal and will pass.

Tip: If you are transferring your domain name to MD, please change the domain name DNS settings before approving the transfer, as you will be unable to change these settings whilst your domain is being transferred.

Testing your web site before DNS propagation

Using the shared URL below, you can preview your web site before your DNS settings have propagated. This function is useful for web site testing purposes to ensure your web site will be served correctly when your domain name is working. The shared URL links are for testing purposes only and are not to be used as a primary download link per our terms and conditions.

Using the shared SSL below, you can access your site securely using our server installed SSL certificate. You can purchase your own private SSL here.

DNS (name server) settings & shared URLs

Please refer to your web email to find out which server your account is located on.

Hint: Don't forget to replace username with your hosting username (check your welcome email) or domain.com with your domain name (check your welcome email).

Hosting Settings

Creating private name servers (resellers only)

Resellers can create their own private name servers to use as DNS (name server) settings for the domains they host on our servers. This helps to re-inforce them as a hosting identity.

Creating private name servers is a two step process

Create DNS entries in your hosting control panel for your private name servers (Linux, Windows)
Create entries for your name servers at your domain registrar (where you purchased the domain)

Windows resellers

Your private name server DNS zones should be automatically created for you. Your name servers will be ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain) with same IP two addresses as the reseller name servers above on the server your account is located.
You now need to create your private name servers at your domain registrar (see below).

Linux resellers

Login to WHM (web host manager)
Under DNS functions -> Click Add a DNS Zone.
Under Add a DNS Zone -> Enter your IP address in 'IP' field (this is the same IP address as the reseller name servers above on the server your account is located)
Under Add a DNS Zone -> Enter your nameserver in 'domain' field as ns1.yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain)
Click 'Do it'.
Repeat this process for your second name server -> This time enter your IP in Step 3 as the second reseller IP address and your nameserver in step 4 as ns2.yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your domain).
Your name servers are almost complete. You now need to create the name servers at your domain registrar.
You have created DNS entries in your hosting control panel. You now need to create the name servers at your domain registrar (see below).

Creating your private name servers at your domain registrar

You need to create your private name servers at your domain name registrar. Please contact them to assist you, as each registrar has a different process.

If you purchased your reseller hosting domain name from MD, please login to our domain management area to create your name servers.

Once your name servers have been created at your domain name registrar, please allow 48 hours to pass before using them with your domains.
