Drive Controller

• On many models, an ungraded drive controller is required to enable RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks), which distributes data across a group of hard disks. Instead of using one large drive to store data, an array of drives is used, which allows redundancy and provides performance advantages. RAID configurations vary based on the number and type of hard drives available on the server configuration you purchase.

Hard Drive

• SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment), a serial revision of the popular legacy ATA bus, features a raw data transfer rate of up to 3.0 bits/second, with dedicated bandwidth and cable for each device. SATA 3.0Gb/s delivers an excellent blend of high performance and capacity.


• SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) unifies compelling elements of the SCSI and SATA worlds in a single efficient design. SAS is an excellent standard for environments that require high performance and reliability. And like SATA, SAS’s raw data transfer rate is up to 3.0 Gbits/sec.


• SAS, however, is a bi-directional bus, meaning data can be routed in both directions. It yields a higher number of simultaneous data transfers to and from multiple devices than SATA.

Operating System
